Assam CM Sonowal Lauds 11-Year-Old Boy for Saving Woman, Child from Drowning

Guwahati, July 11, 2019:

An 11-year-old boy hailing from Sonitpur district of Assam has come to the notice of Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for an act of selfless bravery.

This brave 11-year-old boy from Assam, who has been identified as Uttam Tanti belonging to Missamari village in Sonitpur, saved the lives of a woman and her daughter by jumping into the Dighalijan river and pulling them out.

This heroic act of this young hero saved two lives, but woman’s 18-month-old girl could not be saved.

This act drew the attention of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who tweeted about the incident on Wednesday. "No words would be enough for the courageous act done by 11-year-old Uttam Tanti of Missamari, Sonitpur. He saved the life of a woman and her child who fell into a river. Hats off to his bravery!", Sonowal said.

Reacting to this incident of unparalleled bravery, Tezpur Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar said that the district administration will felicitate the boy on Thursday.

It is to be mentioned that Uttam is a student of Class V from Balisuti Buniyadi Vidyalaya and comes from an underprivileged background. His father, Nipen Tanti, is a daily wage earner. This act has left the whole of Assam stunned and respect has poured in for this young daredevil from all corners of the State of Assam.
