Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday met the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi today and held discussions on leveraging the hydrocarbon potential of Assam to develop the state as a promising hydrocarbon hub.
Chief Minister Sonowal, while appreciating the Union Government’s initiatives in
developing the oil and gas infrastructure in Assam, stressed on speedy implementation of
the new projects in the hydrocarbon sector in the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted issues such as expansion of Numaligarh Refinery, implementation of bio-refinery at Numaligarh, North East Gas Grid, Barauni-Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline, among others, during the discussion.
The Chief Minister said that timely completion of the projects would significantly boost economic growth in the state and generate better employment opportunities in the oil and gas sector in the region.
In return, the Union Minister assured the Chief Minister all support on behalf of the
Government of India in developing the oil and gas infrastructure in Assam. He also informed that work to bring LPG connection to all parts of the state is also being done in a speedy manner.
"Also extended all support on behalf of GOI in developing the oil and gas infrastructure in Assam and linking people of Assam and the North-East to economic and employment opportunities in the oil, gas and steel sector for the overall development of the region", he wrote.
