GUWAHATI: The Assam Chief Minister special vigilance cell has been declared containment zone for 7 days after COVID positive cases were detected among people.

Talking to InsideNE, Biswajit Pegu Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner stated that, "We have declared the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption as a micro containment zone".

He further informed that 11 out of 48 people tested positive in the area.

In the recently  released SOPs, the state government has stated that if more than 10 people are found to be COVID positive in any particular area, that region will declared as a micro containment zone.

It is noteworthy that the state has witnessed a surge in the number of COVID cases since Durga Puja.

Earlier on Monday Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday stated that there will be no lockdown in the state disregarding all rumors.

“NO LOCKDOWN IN ASSAM It has come to my notice that some unscrupulous elements are spreading rumours about re-imposition of lockdown. Such rumours are totally baseless. I urge everyone NOT to pay heed to such misinformation. Let’s join Govt efforts on mass & 100% vaccination”, the CM had tweeted.

He had also urged the citizens to vaccinate themselves fully at the earliest.

“Last year the cases were declining in the months of November, December and then suddenly it took a leap in the month of April this year”, said the Chief Minister.

He had informed that as per the direction from the centre that 17+ can also get the doses of COVID vaccine.

Last week state Minister Pijush Hazarika  hinted on the possibility of lockdown in the state owing to the current COVID-19 scenario.

While interacting with media, he had said that if the COVID situation doesn’t improve, the state government might impose lockdown in the state.

He had added that if the public is not conscious enough, they will have to bear with another lockdown.

Earlier State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta had also said that if the number of COVID-19 cases in the state continues to rise and does not reduce within 3/4 days, the government will take tough measures.
