DIBRUGARH: Assam's chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today weighed in on the detection of black fungus in the AMCH hospital in Dibrugarh district.

Regarding the detection of the first Black fungus case in Assam Medical College yesterday, the Chief Minister said: "We have issued a fresh protocol to minimize the use of steroid in the treatment of patients and also regarding use of steroids for diabetic patients. As soon as the number of Covid cases comes down, we will be able to control black fungus also."

"In the Dibrugarh district, the positivity rate is 2% but it is a matter of concern regarding the Duliajan and Tengakhat block. We will review the situation on Wednesday to take further decisions on this," he said, adding, "If we can inoculate 15,000 persons daily, we can expect some positive outcome by July 7."

"We have planned 3 lakh vaccination every day. Accordingly, in Dibrugarh district on an average 15,000 people will be inoculated per day. We have discussed the preparation for the vaccination plans. We have addressed all the issues related to the same. For the next three days, the Guardian Minister of the district, Atul Bora, and Guardian Secretary, Anant Lal Gyani will be in the district to monitor the vaccination drive," he said.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma attended a review meeting with senior district officials of Dibrugarh district regarding flood and COVID-19 situation and management today. Union Minister Rameswar Teli, State ministers Atul Bora, Bimal Bora, Sanjay Kisan, MLAs of Dibrugarh district, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, and Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu also attended the meeting.

Sarma said that the leaders also discussed the flood situation that may arise in the state.

"The Deputy Commissioner has given us a presentation and expressed his confidence regarding rescue, rehabilitation, and relief plan. From now onwards state government has given power to the Deputy Commissioner to take decisions and sanctions regarding damage of houses, partial damages, school repairing, transformer repairing etc during flood at their capacity instead of taking permission from Dispur," he added.
