GUWAHATI: Assam on Friday completed 5million (55 lakhs +) COVID-19 tests between February 7 to December 8, informed the Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. It was further informed the state has tested almost 5 Lakh samples per month.
Saluting the COVID warriors Himanta tweeted, “Assam completed 5 million (55 lakhs +) #COVID19 tests between Feb 7 to Dec 8, 2020, averaging 5 lakh (half million) tests per month. My salute to our health workers and officials. Together, we are determined to fight the pandemic.”
On Tuesday, the minister also informed that Assam reported two more COVID-19 deaths, while 94 fresh cases pushed the state’s tally to 2,14,019.
The death toll rose to 997 and the overall positivity rate stood at 3.88 per cent against total testing of 55,11,434 samples so far.
Since Monday, 102 patients recovered from the disease.

Assam now has 3,575 active cases, being treated at different hospitals and Covid Care Centres (CCCs), with some in home isolation.
‘Sad to share the demise of two #COVID patients today… Deepest condolences to the bereaved families,’ Sarma said on Twitter.
The deaths were reported from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts, he said.
COVID-19 in India
With a jump of 32,080 fresh COVID-19 cases, India's coronavirus case tally touched 97.35 lakh in the last 24 hours, government data shows. The daily case count was nearly 21% higher than yesterday's 26,567 - the lowest since July 10.
Some 402 people died of the viral disease in the past day. India has recorded 1,41,360 overall Covid-linked deaths so far.
Total active cases declined further to 3,78,909 as almost 36,600 people recovered in the last 24 hours.
