As a part of the nationwide #SpeakUpAgainstFuelHike campaign, the Assam Congress also staged a protest against the sky high rise in prices of petrol and diesel across the state even after fall in crude oil prices in the international market.
“All the district Congress committees have staged protest in-front-of the offices of the Deputy Commissioners in their respective districts against the rise in fuel prices,” the president of the Assam Congress Ripun Bora said in a 57-seconds long video shared on micro-blogging site – Twitter handle of the party.
He demanded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to roll back the prices of petrol and diesel at this critical juncture. Besides, he alleged that the unplanned lockdown of the Modi government devastated the economy.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia accused the saffron party-led National Democratic Alliance government of not giving the effort to give relief to the poor people of the country at this crisis time caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
On the other hand, the All Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), while staging a statewide protest against the BJP government over the continuous rise in prices of petrol and diesel, burnt the effigies of the Prime Minister and the Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in different parts of the state.
The agitators in Tinsukia in Upper Assam raised slogans – ‘BJP hay, hay!’, ‘Narendra Modi murdabad’, ‘Dharmendra Pradhan murdabad’, ‘Peteol-diseal hiked price will not be accepted’.
“The government should control the price hike of petrol and diesel otherwise the protests will be intensified,” Surojit Moran, president of Tinsukia wing of AJYCP.
Diesel price today in Guwahati is 78.97 per litre and petrol price is 84.48 per litre which is comparatively high this month.
