Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on July 22nd, 2020, while slamming Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his remark against the grand old party for criticizing the government, said the latter has indirectly given the threat of taking stern action against critics.
“As a responsible opposition party, it is our duty to point out the lapses of Govt dealing with major problems like Covid 19, flood erosion, unemployment etc. Himanta's over reaction, indirectly giving threat of taking stern action of those critics of him exposes his frustration (sic), the senior Congress leader tweeted

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition, Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia said, “The government has been politicising the COVID-19 issue.”
While condemning the minister’s remark against the Congress, he said, “It is the duty of the opposition to point out the lapses in dealing with issues. We have raised voice for the greater interest of the people of the state.”
On the other hand, the Assam Congress president Ripun Bora criticized the minister and the government by holding a press conference today here in Guwahati. “Congress will continue raising the issues. We are playing role of opposition,” he added. He further said that the ‘government is a complete failure’.
