ASSAM: COP KILLED IN ENCOUNTER WITH ULFA(I) IN TINSUKIA DISTRICT

The Officer in Charge of Bordumsa Police Station, Bhaskar Kalita lost his life while an intense encounter with ULFA-(I) cadres at Kujipathar area of Bordumsa.

On receiving information about the presence of ULFA(I) extremists in a house near Bordumsa,Assam Police and Cobra Battalion of CRPF,led by Bhaskar Kalita,raided the area.This led to a fierce gunfight between a combined team of Army,Police and CRPF jawans and suspected cadres of ULFA-I along the Assam-Arunachal border in Tinsukia district on Friday.

Sources reveal that Bhaskar Kalita,the OC of Bordumsa adorned a bullet-proof jacket during the scuffle. But the bullet-proof jacket was not efficient enough to sustain the massive firefight.

According to sources three members of ULFA(I) succumbed to death during the encounter.However no confirmation had been given regarding the death of the members of the ULFA(I) cadre. The area where the operation was launched is sealed. Search operation is still on in the area.
