A massive ranahunkar (or war cry) against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was held earlier today at the prestigious Cotton University in Guwahati, Assam. Assam heartthrob Zubeen Garg, as well as many noted intellectuals, politicos, and media personalities were present at the protest, which saw the participation of more than a thousand.

Noted intellectual Hiren Gohain, who has been staunchly opposed to the Bill ever since its inception, stated that the Government, through the Bill is trying to spread communal division in every corner of the country. Stating that communalism is against the ideals of the 'father of the nation', Mahatma Gandhi, Gohain urged the students and activists present at the event to adopt the ideals of Gandhi.

Prashanta Rajguru, senior journalist, said that it is a matter of great pride that the society has merged with students. Rajguru also stated that a conglomeration of such forces -- which are not guided by political interests -- will be instrumental in defeating the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Ajit Bhuyan, another senior journalist, said that it is indeed heartening to see students turn up in numbers to protest against the Central Government's 'conspiracy' to harm the interests of Assam.

Many students of Cotton University also took to the stage to express their distaste for the Bill, which will be tabled in the Parliament within a week. Many of the students also recited poems, which they had composed, to express their resentment against the controversial Bill.
It may be mentioned that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill has been a raging issue in the Northeast Indian states, and many indigenous organizations as well as student bodies have been protesting continually against the Bill.
