GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that the coronavirus curfew in the state will be extended till June 5 of 2021 at the very least.
The curfew timing in rural areas has been extended as it will start at 2 pm. Earlier, the curfew time in rural areas was from 6 pm to 5 am.
According to the chief minister, the impact of the second wave of COVID-19 has been "extremely severe" in Assam for which medical infrastructure needs to be strengthened.

However, the odd-even numbers of vehicles shall continue till further orders. The other guidelines shall remain the same except for the extension of the curfew period till June 5.
Yesterday, Assam registered 6,221 new cases of COVID-19, taking the active caseload in the state to 52,649. Today’s positivity rate is 5.16 percent.
The new cases were reported out of 1,20,668 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
The state also registered 5,252 discharges and 84 deaths.
