Assam: Demand Raised for Satellite Council for Karbis Living outside 6th Schedule Areas

Diphu, March 16, 2020:

A team from Karbi Anglong district of Assam, led by its CEM Tuliram Ronghang, reiterated the demand for a satellite Council for Karbis at a function in the ME School in Achetai, Biswanath Chariali District.

"A Satellite Council for Karbis living outside Karbi Anglong is the only solution because their land and political rights, cultural, as well as social identities need to be protected", said Ronghang. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) with an aim to unify Karbis and work for peace, brotherhood, stability and development in the region will co-operate in fighting to obtain political rights for Karbis living outside 6th schedule areas, he added.

The CEM also called upon the Central and State Governments to hold discussions on various issues like education, culture, and economy, and assured the gathering that a meeting will soon be convened to put forth the demand of a satellite Council to the Government of Assam.

In addition to this, he stated that an open interaction and discussion will be held soon with all Karbis living outside Karbi Anglong on topics related to the Development of Karbis to realize the goal of building a Great Karbi Nation.

The CEM Tuliram Ronghang also laid the foundation stone for construction of various scheme of the sum total of rupees Rs 7 crore which is to be used for renovation and upgradation of Karbi Guest house cum Karbi Students Hostel.
