Guwahati, August 30, 2019:

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia, discussing the security arrangements in the State one day ahead of the final NRC publication on August 31.

Putting to rest reports that there is a possibility of unrest after the long-awaited NRC is published, he said that the situation in Assam is calm and quiet, and very very normal. Saikia further added that a 'proper law and order plan' has been put in place and on 23rd August, a meeting of all the SPs in all the districts was held.

Saikia further asserted that the Assam Police have chalked out district level plans for law and order management in the State. "Night patrolling has also been organized by the Assam Police personnel and area domination is being done", he said.

Announcing a boost to the security forces in the State, the DGP announced that the Assam Police has brought many extra security forces ever since the beginning of the NRC exercise.

"51 companies have been deployed now, and 167 companies had arrived earlier. The contingent is mixed and includes ITBP, BSF, ITBP, personnel", he said.

Saikia further added, "We are hopeful that we will be able to look after the law and order scenario, as the Assam Police too has a strong force."

The DGP also informed that the borders are being monitored so that no "anti social" elements cross the state. "We are in constant touch with representatives of all neighboring states, and we are constantly monitoring all the bordering areas ahead of the NRC", Saikia added.

The DGP further informed that all the districts have been asked to constantly monitor the 'sensitive areas', and it is a dynamic process that is going on constantly.
