Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia, who is set to retire, might get an extended term, if reports are to be believed.
Sources have revealed that Saikia's term might be extended due to a number of factors. It may be mentioned here that the long-awaited Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published tomorrow amid beefed up security in the State.
Earlier, it had been reported that former All Assam Students' Union (AASU) member, Tapan Deka, as its next DGP.
Tapan Deka was also a ‘top spy’ of India in Washington DC, the capital city of United States of America. A Himachal cadre officer now posted in Assam as JD(IB), he handled ULFA cases between 1993-2001.
Deka maintains a ‘low profile’ and it is hard to even find pictures of him on search engine site Google. Only a side photo of Tapan Deka receiving presidential medals exists at the moment.
If sources are to be believed, the ‘super cop’ will take over as the DGP of Assam after the retirement of the current DGP Kuladhar Saikia.
