Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia on July 27 discussed the rampant crime in the State while addressing mediapersons here today and also revealed what steps are being taken to punish the three notorious Assam Police personnel who had looted a Mizo woman.
Discussing the incident in which three Assam policemen had looted Rs. 20 lakhs from an unsuspecting Mizo woman, Saikia said that: "Three persons have already arrested, and official proceedings are on to punish the crook policemen. If more names come up in regards to this case, they shall be arrested as well. All legal procedures are being carried out to ensure that justice is meted out."
The incident was reported at the Dispur Police Station at around 8:00 pm by the woman. Following this, the Dispur police on Friday arrested two police personnel of the Hatigaon Police Station and one Home Guard in relation to the case.
The three accused have been identified as Sub-Inspectors (SI) Hiranya Pathari, one Probationer SI Pranjal Bora of Hatigaon Police Station and one Home Guard from Dispur PS Bipul Hazarika. They were arrested today based on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman.
The DGP also spoke about another shocking incident of crime which took place in Guwahati yesterday, in which a jewelry store in the city was robbed of valuables. "Efforts are on to nab the culprits in that case as well", he said.
"The Assam Police will also focus on security measures to reduce these kinds of crimes", he added.
