Assam | District Administration To Refurbish Education Scenario In Hailakandi District

With a view to bringing about a sea change in the education scenario in Hailakandi district, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli held an extensive review meeting with officials of the Education department Saturday.

In her quest to carry forward the aspirational district, DC, Jalli held a meeting with the district and block level functionaries of the Education department at her office.

The meeting reviewed the administrative set up of the department, allotted and available posts, various programme and activities being undertaken by the department, status of teacher training, community participation, inclusive education, implementation of Mid-Day Meal scheme (MDMs), data management information system and status of infrastructure development projects.

The meeting started with a brief introduction of the participants. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education), RK Dam explained the objectives and agenda of the meeting to change education scenario.

Inspector of Schools and District Mission Coordinator, Rajiv Kumar Jha made a power point presentation and apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the status and challenges being faced by the district towards the implementation of different plans and programme under different components of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Assam. He further apprised the house about the slew of initiatives being undertaken and strategies planned for ensuring improvement in the educational scenario of the district.

226 new LP and UP school buildings have been completed while two are ongoing. 1,191 additional classrooms have been built while 19 are under various stages of construction. As regards girls' toilets, 1,978 have been constructed while four are ongoing. 805 boys' toilets built while six are ongoing. Under the MDMs, as against 1,618 schools, 1,04,139 enrolments have been made. 851 schools require new LPG connections under MDMs in 2019-20.

DC, Jalli critically analyzed the data and sought clarification on various points during the presentation, put forth her suggestions, adroitly guided to solve the deadlocks and directed the education officials to leave no stone unturned in ensuring implementation of government programmes in order to ensure a better academic environment in the interest of students and society.

Jalli examined the issues of Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR), zero enrolments and amalgamated schools, transition of students from lower primary to upper primary level and from upper primary to high school level, learning outcome of students, open educational resources (OER), achievement of students in HSLC, AHM & HS examinations, MDM daily data upload on ARMS portal of Ministry of Human Resource Development, scope of upgradation of schools specially in tea garden and other marginalised areas, status of infrastructure in schools such as boys/girls toilet, drinking water, school building, boundary wall, electrification, LPG connection et al.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed her dissatisfaction about the learning outcome of students, HSLC results in 2019, delayed implementation of few infrastructure development schemes and projects.

Resolutions over pending civil works, attitudinal challenges, implementation and monitoring were taken up in details.

Jalli categorically exhorted upon the officials and functionaries to devote wholly to bring about a radical transformation of the education scenario and the district, ensure regularity of students, teachers and non-teaching staff in schools and to maintain absolute integrity in public life.
