HOJAI: As many as 24 culprits have been arrested on Wednesday in the sensational Hojai incident in Assam.
The incident took place at Udali Model Hospital, Hojai on Tuesday where a doctor Dr. Seuj kumar Senapati was brutally beaten by some attendants of a COVID patient who died.
The incident has created a nationwide outrage after a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.

Condemning the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Such barbaric attacks on our frontline workers won't be tolerated by our administration.”
Informing the arrest of 24 culprits involved in the incident, the Chief Minister said, “24 culprits involved in this barbaric attack have been arrested and the chargesheet will be filed at the earliest.I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that justice will be served.”
The culprits have been identified as Md.Kamaruddin, Md. Jainal uddin, Rehanuddin, Saidul Alam , Rahim uddin, Rajul Islam, Tayebur Rahman, Sahil Islam, Rahimuddin, Abdul Kalam. Nurzul Islam, Abdul Gumi, Dilwar Hussain, Abdul Hussain, Anuwar Hussain, Ikramul Hussain, Nasirrudin, Alimuddin , Jamil Ahmad, Safiquddin, Mofizur Rahman, Matibur Rahmana and Miss Misba Begum.
Narrating the incident Dr. Senapati on Tuesday said, “At about 2PM, some attendants started complaining that their patient had not urinated since morning. When I rushed to check I realised that the patient had already died. Then they started attacking me and other staff of the hospital. They even destroyed hospital property. Me and my colleagues ran inside the wards to save ourselves. However, they forcefully entered and started beating me”.
The attendants attacked Dr. Senapati along with other staff with whatever they could get hold of, the doctor added who is currently undergoing treatment for his wounds at GMCH.
The police reached to the spot much later and brought the situation under control. They are continuing to investigate the matter.
Dr. Senapati was recently posted to Hojai and it was second day of service in the hospital.
The incident has created an outrage among the medical community of the state as being the frontline workers, the medical community has been relentlessly rendering their service during the pandemic.
