Red and white balloons, huge stars, flowers, streamers and all things colorful adorned the Don Bosco Church of Guwahati on the occasion of Christmas today.
Don Bosco’s nativity scene, comprising statues of Mary, infant Jesus and Joseph, like every year, added to the charm of Christmas.

Guwahatians also thronged the Pan Bazar Church, which is popular among the masses for its Christmas celebrations and prayed for peace and happiness of the country. The Don Bosco Church came alive today with people wishing each other with warm hugs and good wishes for a prosperous new year.

While the elderly people were seen engaging themselves in conversations, the young ones were busy taking pictures and exchanging smiles and hugs with friends and near and dear ones.
A lady, hailing from Mizoram, who came to the Church with her family for prayers, said, “Christmas is a time to share, not only within our families but also with the outside world.”
Manashi, a Guwahati resident, told us, “Today is a joyful day and since we witnessed a lot of disturbances in the past few days, we have come here to pray for peace and may humanity prevail in the days to come.”

William, another visitor shared about his lunch and dinner plans with his family and friends for Christmas. “It is that time of the year when the family comes together and enjoys together. We share good time together and I hope the good continues,” he said.
Father Sangma from the Church sent out a positive message to the people. “I, as a priest, it is my duty to take care pf the people. It is a season of celebration. I encourage the people to celebrate in a secular way. Let there be joy in the hearts of the people. Let’s accept one another the way we are. I pray for all the communities today so that each one of us can become the Messiahs."
