GUWAHATI: Assam Don Bosco University won the prestigious “Excellence in Institutional Social Responsibility Award”.
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) presented the award to the Assam Don Bosco University at the 7th FICCI Higher Education Excellence Award ceremony held on February 25 this year.
This award is well-deserved by the university, as it has incorporated social responsibility and community outreach into its educational processes. By incorporating Service Learning, it has brought this educational goal to a new stage.

“Service-Learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development. It is a method that links the classroom with the field” is what the university shared about its Community Engagement Programme, which was institutionalized in 2020 but was in practice since 2008.
The university explained how it developed this programme to help young people become "intellectually competent, morally upright, socially responsible, and spiritually motivated citizens at the service of India and the world of today and tomorrow."

The Community Engagement programme seeks to produce Socially Engaged Graduates who are socially conscious, informed, responsive, and involved individuals who are committed and accountable agents of social change who are dedicated to improving societal systems and institutions in order to ensure social justice and uphold the integrity and value of all members of society.
The Community Engagement Programme is carried out in and around Azara village, Joypur village and few villages under Kamarkuchi GoanPanchayat, and Barkhat Goan Panchayat.
This social initiative is enthusiastically carried forward by the faculty, the staff and the students, with dedicated support from the administration.

The Community Engagement Programme has 180 minimum hours of service component for 2-year programmes, 200 minimum hours of service component for 3-year programmes, and 300 minimum hours of service component for 4-year programmes.
Assam Don Bosco University has also been honoured by an appreciation certificate from the department of health and family welfare, the government of Assam in recognition of the University’s contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The University was also one among the five winners at the ‘Unnati ki Kahani Chitro ki Jubani’; and Winner of the 7th eNabling North East Award 2019-2020 in the category health, sanitation and well being”.

At the international level, the University was declared winner of the “Engaged University of the Year 2020 Asia Pacific (Entrepreneurship and Engagement Excellence) Award” on 10 January last year, by the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial & Engaged Universities (ACEEU), Science Park, Netherlands.
