The Agriculture department in association with the administration of Hailakandi district in Assam has begun door-to-door delivery of fruits and vegetables through hawkers.
Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer of the Assam district, Dr. AR Ahmed said the department has provided the fixed price list of fruits and vegetables to the hawkers and requested the consumers to make the payment as per the list only.
Ahmed said any hawker not displaying the price list of items and taking more than the fixed rates would be penalised and his licence would be cancelled. "Vendors will have to display the price list for information of the buyers. Any deviation on the part of the fruit vendors would pave the way for cancellation of the sale permission forthwith," he added.
Rahman also asked the public to lodge a complaint in the nearest police station if any hawker takes advantage of the lockdown situation to dupe the consumers.
