The Research Cell of Assam down town University has successfully hosted a five day Webinar Lecture series on the theme “Research in Public and Private Funded Institutions: Its Societal Impact” from June 22nd to 26th, 2020. The Webinar started with the introductory speech by Dr. Maitreyee Sarma Bezbarua the Dean of Research, Assam down town University and convener of the Webinar. This was followed by the address of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, and Advisor Research and the chairman of the organizing committee, Dr. B G Unni.

There were ten distinguished speakers from the diverse fields from India and abroad who had given their input in the theme. Dr. G. Narahari Sastry, Director, CSIR, NEIST, Jorhat was the inaugural expert speaker and the topic of his lecture was the role of Science and Technology in the time of War, Pandemic `and Natural Disaster. Other eminent speakers include Dr. Apurbba Kumar Sharma, Professor, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Coordinator, Design Innovation Center (DIC), IIT, Roorkee, India, Dr. Dwipendra Thakuria, Professor, (Environ. Microbial. and Soil Science), School of NRM, College of PG studies in Agricultural Sciences,  Central Agriculture University, Umium, Meghalaya, Dr. Nayan Sharma, Adjunct Professor, IIT Roorkee, Distinguished Professor, Shiv Nadar University; Honorary Professor, Nottingham University, UK, Dr. Hemanta Hazarika, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation, Kyushu University,  Fukuoka, Japan &Adjunct Professor, IIT Madras, India, Dr. Sashindra Kumar Kakoty, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Dean(Resource generation and finance), Coordinator, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, IIT Guwahati, Assam, Dr. Vikas Shirsath, Sr. Vice President- Global Operations, Jubilant Chemsys, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Swaroop Nandan Bora, Professor, Department of Mathematics, IIT, Guwahati, Assam. Dr. N.C. Talukdar, Former Director, Institute of Advanced Studies in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, Assam and Dr. B G Unni, Former Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Adviser Research, AdtU, Director-Academic & Research, GEMS Arts & Science College (Affiliated to University of Calicut).

All the speakers had given their valuable inputs and suggestions which will be beneficial to all the participants and will lead them to engage in research which will better fulfil the needs of the society. The Valedictory session was addressed by the Chancellor of Assam down town University, Dr. N. N. Dutta and Dean of Studies, Prof. Bandana Dutta. They lauded and appreciated the efforts of the Research Cell for providing such a beneficial and thoughtful platform for discussion of research matters. The program was concluded with the final remarks by the Chairman of the event and Vote of thanks delivered by the Convener.
