Assam: Dreaded dacoit arrested by Hailakandi district police

Hailakandi, May 8:

Most wanted criminal and mastermind of the dacoity incident at Katakhal, Kamrul Islam Barbhuiya also known as Lekhoi has been arrested by a team of Hailakandi district police at Silchar in Cachar district Thursday evening.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Additional SP (Hq.) and DSP (law and order) with the help of Cachar district police arrested the dreaded dacoit, who is wanted in several criminal cases in the three districts of Barak Valley during the past few years.

Hailakandi district police were on the lookout for the most wanted criminal who masterminded the daring dacoity at a residence of an ex CRPF jawan under Katakhal Outpost on April 29. A case no.42/20 under section 395/397 IPC read with Section 25 (1) (a)/27(1) under Arms Act was registered against Barbhuiya and his notorious gang at Panchgram Police Station.

Barbhuiya, aged 27, is a resident of Saidpur Part IV under Rangirkhari ToP under Silchar Police Station.

Search operations are going on in different places of Cachar district by a joint team of Hailakandi and Cachar police. Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi, Pabindra Kumar Nath termed the arrest of the most dreaded criminal as a major breakthrough for the police.
