Assam education department issues directives to schools after CJP’s ‘School Thik Karo’ visits

The Assam Education Department has issued five directives to schools across the state concerning school security, sanitation, academic discipline and the protection of students’ rights and safety, following recent visits to government schools by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

The directions come after CJP launched its ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign, under which party members visited government schools to assess infrastructure and basic facilities. A team led by CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka recently inspected schools in the Palashbari and Dispur areas and raised concerns over infrastructure and facilities at some institutions.

According to the Education Department’s latest instructions, schools have been directed to keep their main gates locked before the morning prayer begins.

Schools have also been instructed to ensure that toilets remain clean and hygienic and that proper cleanliness is maintained across school premises.

Another directive calls for restricting the entry of outsiders into school campuses without prior permission, with schools asked to maintain appropriate security measures.

The department has further emphasised the need to maintain a proper academic environment within school campuses.

In a separate instruction concerning student safety and privacy, schools have been directed to prohibit the collection of photographs and videos of children without prior permission.

The directives follow the CJP’s recent school campaign, during which its members visited government-run institutions to examine infrastructure and facilities. The party has said the initiative is intended to highlight gaps in government school infrastructure and push for improvements in basic facilities.

The school inspections took place days after Ranka and several CJP leaders and volunteers were detained by Assam Police in Guwahati ahead of a planned regional volunteers’ meeting. They were subsequently released.
