Dhan Bahadur Chetri, a young entrepreneur, choosing not to join the multitudes seeking "cushy" Government jobs, has instead shown incredible business acumen to open an egg farm and is now fully financially independent. By using science to his advantage, the young entrepreneur has built up an egg empire in his very own backyard

The story of Chetri's entrepreuship began in 2018, when he took a small loan to begin his "scientific" enterprise. "We have over 2000 egg-laying hen which lay 1950-2000 each day. This results in around Rs 10,000-12,000 in profits. After paying off the employees and buying seeds, I am left with a net profit of around Rs 3,000. Almost all the egg dealers are taking their eggs from me", Chetri says with a beaming smile.

Chetri is ably supported by his wife in his enterprise, proving true the maxim that "behind every successful man, there is a woman". "People of Assam should be fed fresh eggs; thus, more and more people should open farms like this", his wife tells us, stressing on the need for proper nutrition via the rich protein content of scientifically engineered eggs.

Not only eggs, Chetri's farm is also producing fertilizers by utilizing the egg droppings. He said, "People also buy fertilizers which are made from the droppings of my hens. There is a great demand for this here...thus, my overall earnings from this enterprise cross Rs 1 lakh per month."

Chetri's entrepreneurship has now earned him the applause and respect of the local authorities in Assam. On January 26, the Government endowed him with the 'Swabalambita Prerna' award, as a mark of respect for his "scientific" journey that has reaped him rich rewards at a time when youths his age are still running after the elusive Government jobs.
