GUWAHATI: Shortly after the Anchalik Gana Morcha (AGM), the Congress-led Grand Alliance also moved the Election Commission of India (ECI) today for videography of the entire counting process of the Assam assembly elections on May 2.
In a joint appeal to the ECI, the Grand Alliance, a conglomerate of seven parties, has also sought video recording of the process of carrying EVMs from the strong rooms to counting centres.
In a letter to the chief election commissioner, the Mahajath stated: “… direct the Deputy Commissioner, SDO (Civil), Returning Officers to ensure video recording of all counting tables and EVM carrying process from the strong room to the counting hall.”

The Grand Alliance also demanded that “the authorised agents of the contesting candidates may be allowed to be in front of the door of the strong room after it is opened and till the counting process is over”.
Further the Mahajath urged the ECI to direct the authorities to “furnish detailment (table wise) of the officials engaged for counting of votes to all the contesting candidates”.
The alliance has also demanded counting of postal ballots, ballot collected from homes of absentee voters and election duty certificate before counting of EVMs.

The AGM had recently moved the ECI demanding video recording of the counting process and appealed to the parties and people to be vigilant of the strong rooms.
