GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is leading in Majuli constituency with 4,400 votes while Congress candidate Rajib Lochan Pegu was trailing with 1,619 votes.
On the other hand, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Sishudhar Doley has got 422 votes, followed by Assam Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) candidate Bhaity Richong with 44 and independent candidate Purna Pegu with 36 votes.
Sonowal won the Majuli constituency in the 2016 Assam assembly elections.
While Sonowal polled 49,602 votes, Pegu polled 30,679 votes.

Meanwhile, counting of votes for the 126-member Assam assembly election is under way with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leading in 79 seats, followed by the Congress-led ‘Mahajot’ in 43, AJP in two and Raijor Dal in one.
