GUWAHATI: The Assam Employees' Parent Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring ((PRANAM) ) Amendment Bill, 2021 has been passed in the Assam Assembly Budget Session 2021-22 today.
Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog introduced the PRANAM Act, 2017 on August 9 to extend the benefits of the family pension scheme to government employees' parents and divyang siblings
Neog stated that the PRANAM Bill, 2021, was introduced because there was no provision in the current law that allows parents or divyang' or differently-abled siblings to claim a family pension if a government employee dies in the line of duty.

Furthermore, the quorum for hearing complaints by the PRANAM Commission was not specified in the Act, which is being corrected through the amendment, she added.
“The amendment to the PRANAM Act, 2017, is to provide for accountability of state government employees in caring for their parents and divyang siblings....,” Bill's Objects and Reasons stated.
The proposed Bill will not incur any additional costs, the minister added.
