In the middle of the lockdown imposed by the Government of India, the poor and backward classes of Kokrajhar, Assam, have been given grocery items and vegetables, as the nation stares at an economic recession. The substantial number of daily wage laborers especially have been worst-hit due to the crisis. In Kokrajhar, however, many people received a boon in the form of vegetables and grocery items when the local authorities decided to distribute the essential commodities to the residents.
Grocery items and vegetables have been distributed among town residents under Kokrajhar Municipality Board today during the lockdown periods. The nationwide lockdown entered into its 4th day on Saturday, that witnessed total shutdown in Kokrajhar, the heart of the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) administration.

For maintaining social distance among the citizens in the Kokrajhar town during the nationwide lockdown period, grocery items and vegetables are distributed among the ward residents under municipality board area. Moreover, vegetables are sold at low rate of prices in services of social integration during the lockdown period.

The initiative was carried out by district administration of Kokrajhar in association with Kokrajhar municipality board and they distributed the groceries to ten wards in the area.
Chairman of the Board Bishnu Narzary has said that the initiative was organised to maintain social distance and bring awareness on COVID-19 among the citizens in the town. He further said that people must maintain social distance and keep following the directions issued by the WHO and the Government to ensure their safety.
Coronavirus Update:
597,607 people have been infected by the COVID-19 as of yet, with 27,371 deaths recorded so far. With 104,256 cases so far, the United States has surpassed Italy and China as the country with the most infections. 9,134 deaths have been reported from Italy.
The total number of coronavirus or (COVID-19) cases in India has now risen to 902, with 21 deaths being recorded as per the latest data from the Health Ministry and State Governments.
