GUWAHATI: Forest personnel with the assistance of the civil and police administrations of Kamrup district conducted an eviction operation in Boromboi Reserve Forest on Wednesday.
The operation began early in the morning and lasted several hours, during which JCBs destroyed 20 houses built illegally on restricted forest grounds.
As unlawful constructions were destroyed and forest lands were cleared of encroachments, a posse of forest and security personnel stood guard.

In the following days, a senior forest officer stated, the eviction campaign to remove forest lands of encroachments will be intensified.
"In the coming days, we will intensify our drive against encroachers to clean the forest lands," the official said, adding that it has boosted green hopes.
