Assam: Ex-CM questions utility of updating NRC

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has now questioned the utility of updating the much-talked National Register of Citizens (NRC) by spending a huge amount of money, though ironically it was during his tenure that the process of update began.

Reacting to non-inclusion of 40 lakh people from the complete draft NRC, the octogenarian Congress leader remarked, “While updating the NRC, many have been identified as Bangladeshis. But, what’s the point of spending such a huge amount of money in updating the NRC if the Bangladeshis cannot be sent back?”
