GUWAHATI: A Bokakhat farmer has accused Food Corporation of India (FCI) of showing neglecting behaviour towards local farmers which resulting in a loss in business.
Pradyut Mahanta from Bokakhat had made headlines for harvesting high-quality Boro rice in 25 bighas of land individually and cooperatively in 125 bighas of land. Mahanta collectively harvested a total of 12 tonnes of rice.
"I went to FCI in Jorhat several times to sell my harvested rice. Efforts went futile. I received help from Bokakhat Agricultural Department as well as from Circle officer Shagufta Anjum Sohail," Mahanta claimed in a Facebook post today.

"Sometimes FCI says they do not have bags sometimes they do not have orders. Rates fixed by FCI is Rs.1850 per quintal whereas we are selling at just Rs. 1100 per quintal," Mahanta added.
Mahanta also alleged that due to lack of efficiency in the implementation of schemes this kinda incident occurs. Very recently, government data also revealed that irregularities took place in the PM Kisan scheme and that Rs 2992.75 crores went to ineligible farmers in the country.
In the same regard, Assam secured the first rank in the country where 8.35 lakh ‘ineligible’ or fake farmers were benefitted and received Rs 558.01 crores from the scheme.
"It an appeal to the government, make policies efficient for the betterment of the farmers. Stop going against it by providing aid to non-farmers in the state," said Mahanta.
Worth mentioning that Bokakhat is the constituency of Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora as well.
