Assam Ferry Tragedy: 8 hospitalized so far; 30-year-old dead

JORHAT: As per priliminary reports, 82 persons have survived the boat capsize accident at Nimatighat in Jorhat district.

The deceased has been identified as Parimita Das (30). Meanwhile, the report stated that 8 persons are being treated at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH).

Earlier in the morning, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that two persons are still missing, while one person has died.

"Rescue operation going on in Majuli. As of now 1 death and 2 missing. Efforts are on to find out more information", he tweeted.

It needs mention here that two boats collided at Nimatighat yesterday around 4 pm, with passengers on board. One boat (MB Tipkai) was coming from Majuli, while the other (Ma Kamala) had set off from Nimatighat.
