Police personnel in Margherita town in Assam on May 5 allegedly assaulted a fish-seller at Dehing Tea Estate Margherita.
According to the victim's family, the fish monger in question, a certain Shambu Sah, was returning from his neighbour's house around 8 PM on Tuesday when a Bolero vehicle fully packed with police personnel halted near him. The personnel disembarked from the SUV and proceeded to beat him unconscious and left him lying on the ground.

Locals later came and took Shambu Sah to the Dehing Tea Estate Hospital wherefrom he was referred to the Margherita Civil Hospital. According to reports, the fish seller sustained grievous injuries and medical personnel had to perform 8 stitches on Sah's body to patch him up.
Meanwhile, Shambu Sah's family members have said that since he was the sole breadwinner for the family, his injury has left a pall of gloom upon the household.
The Assam man's neighbours, meanwhile, who were privy to the incident, have condemned the incident and demanded answers from the police force for this alleged act of barbarity amid the lockdown.
It needs mention here that the Assam administration has called for a complete curfew in view of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Barring "essential" personnel, all others have been instructed to strictly stay indoors.
