SILCHAR: Five inmates including undertrials at the Central Jail Silchar were tested and found to be afflicted with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
According to reports, the tests were done recently and three new cases were detected while two others including one from Manipur and another person, a truck driver who was jailed, had already been affected by the disease.
The three newly detected HIV positive patients are under trail prisoners, mostly drug addicts.
The HIV positive affected prisoners are undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
