Assam Flood | Katakhal River in Hailakandi Flowing over 'Danger Level'

Guwahati, July 14, 2019:

As per the latest reports of the Central Water Commission, Flood Forecast Monitoring Directorate, Katakhal river at Matijuri in Hailakandi district of Assam continues to flow in 'severe situation' flowing at a level of 22.07 metre.

This is 1.80 metre above its danger level of 20.27 metre with a rising trend and 0.66 metre below its previous highest flood level (HFL) of 22.73 metre (2007-09-10) of Katakhal river.

It is to be mentioned that the latest updates of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), as on July 14, approximately, approximately, 16,09,438 people have been affected in the flood in the 27 districts till date.

As many as eight people have lost their lives due to the floods in districts of Dhemaji (2), Golaghat (3), Barpeta (1), Jorhat (2) and two people lost their lives in a landslide in the Kamrup (M) and Dima Hasao.

NDRF and SDRF teams have been pressed into service in the flood-affected areas for search and rescue operation.

NDRF team with rescue boats have been deployed in Sivasagar, Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Silchar, Cachar, Jorhat and Bongaigaon. Rest of the places are covered from Guwahati base. Three companies of the SDRF consisting of 84 deep divers have been deployed in 40 location of the state with boats.

As per the official statement of the ASDMA, a total of 2,217 villages in 80 revenue circles of 25 districts viz. Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar, West Karbi Anglong, and Dhubri of Assam have been affected in the flood.

Presently, 62 relief camps and 172 relief distribution centre are operational in Biswanath, Sonitpur, Baksa, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Hojai, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts with 20, 047 inmates in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Hojai and Tinsukia.

The river Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat), Tezpur (Sonitpur), Guwahati (Kamrup), Goalpara, Dhubri; Burhidehing at Khowang (Dibrugarh), Sabasiri (Badatihat); Dhansiri (S) at Numaligarh (Golaghat); Jia Bharali at N.T.Rd.Xiang (Sonitpur); Kopili at Kampur (Nagaon), at Dharamtul, Puthimari at N.H.Rd.Xiang (Kamrup); Beki at Rd. Bridge (Barpeta); Barak at A.P.Ghat (Cachar) and Badarpur (Karimganj); Katakhal at Matizuri (Hailakandi).; Khusiara at Karimganj have crossed the danger levels.
