GUWAHATI: In a sensational incident reported from Bamunigaon in Chaygaon under Kamrup district of Assam, an Assam Forest Department Ranger was caught red-handed while taking a bribe.

Lakheswar Das, the Assam Forest Ranger in question, was nabbed after the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) conducted a raid based on reliable inputs. He had been serving in the Bamunigaon Forest Ranger.

According to reports, the forest Ranger had demanded a bribe in turn for releasing a dumper bearing registration number ML11 6864 that had been seized for illegally carrying sand.

Sahabul Islam, the owner of the vehicle, approached the Anti-corruption Bureau upon being asked for a bribe. Das was reportedly caught while taking a bribe of Rs. 60,000.

Das has been arrested by the Bureau under relevant sections of the Law and interrogation is going on.

Earlier this year, another Assam Forest Ranger, Makhan Islam, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting bribe from a businessman by sleuths of the anti-corruption branch (ACB).

He was arrested at Highway 15 under Silapathar police station in Upper Assam’s Dhemaji district.
