Assam: Former IAF Serviceman Lambasts Minister Himanta for "Fooling People" on CAA

Guwahati, January 19, 2020:

An ex-serviceman of the Indian Air Force has lashed out at Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his recent statement that he does not fear “senior and junior Gogoi”.

Himanshu Gogoi, the ex-serviceman, questioned Sarma for making the statement about not fearing Gogoi. According to him, the Minister was indirectly talking about former CM Tarun Gogoi and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who has emerged as one of the new faces during the agitation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

The ex-serviceman said, “I am a small Gogoi. My name is Himanshu Gogoi. You have called out to one Gogoi (Lurinjyoti) to read the Assam Accord in English…. Why have you called out the AASU leader? Aren’t you ashamed?”

“I want to say that… You must be holding the Doctorate degree but I can speak better English than you… I agree that I am not highly educated. I don’t have a Doctorate degree but still I would say that I speak better English than you. You can’t even pronounce the words I know,” he continued.

He was seen questioning the Minister in a video that he shared online. He asked what Sarma had done so far about implementing the Clauses of Assam Accord. “Weren’t you the second CM during Tarun Gogoi’s tenure? He had given you all the power. Now also you are the second CM. Tomorrow if the BJP falls, will you blame Sarbananda Sonowal?” he questioned in the video.

He further alleged Sarma of misleading people with the “false” information on CAA rules. “Sonowal does not know how many lakhs of Hindu Bangladeshis will be provided citizenship in Assam. But you know about the CAA rules. Do you think people are stupid?”

He warned Sarma to refrain from fooling the Assamese people in the name of CAA. The ex-serviceman further alleged the Assam Minister of destroying the Assamese community for his own gain. “You say that only 4-5 lakh people will be given citizenship. You say that you will win 100 seats in the upcoming elections. To win these seats, you will require 40 lakh readymade voters and you have already made the arrangements,” he said.

Himanshu Gogoi went on to say that the ‘Bhakts’ (followers) and people of Assam should know about Himanta Biswa Sarma’s interests. He warned the BJP leader that the public will throw them out of power in the 2021 elections.

“I will not say much. Otherwise, you will put me behind the bars,” said the ex-serviceman before concluding his rant on the Assam Minister for the ongoing issues in the state.
