ASSAM: FORMER INTERNATIONAL SWIMMER CROSSES 29KMS IN ENGLISH CHANNEL

Assamese boy Elvis Ali Hazarika becomes the first to swim 29 kms in the English Channel where at first the water temperature was 12 degrees centigrade and to the middle it was 11 degrees centigrade. He kept swimming for 10 hours and 15 minutes.

The ace swimmer since childhood won as many as 68 national and 6 international gold medals. At the age of 9 he represented the nation in the Asia Pacific Swimming Championship in the year 1991. He also even represented India in South Asian Federation Games in 1995 and 1999 and the World Police Games in 2009. Further he represented the State of Assam in the All India Pacific National Aquatic Games Sub Junior Junior and Senior Aquatic National Championship and National Games.

Besides being trained for swimming, Elvis is also training for fitness with body-builder Mahadev Deka. Yoga and meditation are also a part of his preparation.

The Axomiya Gamosa and the Indian National flag being held with pride by Pilot and Guide Fredrick Mardle and Elvis Ali Hazarika after his successful English Channel Swim of 29 kms in ice cold water.
