Kokrajhar, April 20, 2020:

Janardan Basumatary alias B Detsung, a former General Secretary of the now-defunct National Democratic Front of Boroland (Dhiren Boro faction), and the former finance secretary of the NDFB (Progressive), breathed his last earlier today at 5 am. He was 55.

The NDFB leader had long been suffering from lung cancer and passed away at his residence in Udalguri district of Assam. The former NDFB leader is survived by his wife and two daughters. He was popularity known as 'Mahajan' in his locality.

It is pertinent to mention here that the deceased was an active participant of the Bodoland revolution, and had served in the NDFB (P) as the Finance Secretary. Later, he became the General Secretary of the Dhiren Boro-led faction of the NDFB.

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), the apex student body in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) region has expressed "shock" and "sadness" at the demise of one of the most active and dynamic ex-members of the National Democratic Front of Boroland.

Various organisations and political parties of the region, including the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Writers' Academy, BPF, UPPL and many other Bodo leaders have extended their condolences after the passing away of the leader.

It is pertinent to mention here that all 4 factions of the NDFB signed a tripartite agreement with the Government, signalling an end to the decades-old conflict in the region. On March 9, 2020, three of the factions of the revel outfit, including the Dhiren Boro faction, Ranjan Daimary faction and B Saoraigwra faction, were disbanded.
