Assam: Four Suspected Bangladeshis Nabbed in Baksa District

Goreswar, September 14, 2019:

Four Suspected Bangladeshis have been nabbed in Mohoripara in Assam’s Baksa district. They were heading to Suwagpur from Guwahati when four persons, including the driver of a vehicle, bearing registration number AS 25 DC 2074 were nabbed at around 8:30 pm on Friday.

The alleged Bangladeshis were nabbed by the North Betona Chapter of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). Subsequently, the ‘Bangladeshis’ were handed over to the local authorities of Baksa for interrogation.

The apprehendees have been identified as Swahid Ali, Bimala, and Kayem Ali. Since their testimonies did not match, it was suspected that they are from Bangladesh. Moreover, they said that they were headed to Suwagpur carrying materials to build a house.

It may be mentioned here that they were suspected to be Bangladeshis as they did not have any documents.

Earlier, it had been discovered that a Bangladeshi national was residing in Assam's Hailakandi district. Astoundingly, it was discovered that his name was even included in the final NRC list.

The Bangladeshi national, Faridul Hussain Laskar, entered Indian territory on 21 February 2013. Even more surprisingly, Faizur Rahman and Maksuda Begum, two accomplices of Faridul, who are from Bangladesh, have been making trips to India, and their names have now found their way into the voter rolls.

After the publication of the NRC, Prateek Hajela, the State Coordinator, NRC said, “A total of 3,11,21,004 persons have been found eligible for inclusion in the final draft, leaving out 19,06,657 persons, including those who did not submit their claims."
