At least four persons have been arrested for being involved with tusker smuggling at Mahendrapur Jharbari area under Kachugaon forest division on Wednesday in Kokrajhar district.
According to forest department officials,based on input about tusker smuggling cases in the area,a joint team of forest department, NGO members and police have jointly carried out a search operation against the tusker smuggling at Mahendrapur Jharbari area since last evening and today early morning nabbed persons and two pieces of tuskers have also seized.

The arrested persons were identified as Chandra Sekhar Basumatary,Ringshar Basumatary,Thulunga Basumatary and Sanjarang Wary.
The arrested persons were involved with with tusker smuggling and they tried to sell at a big amount in the black market in the nearby foreign countries.
"The smuggling case was detected strictly under the initiative of forest department and local police",said a senior forest department official.
