As many as 19 kickboxers from Assam bagged 6 Gold and 7 Bronze medals in the Kickboxing Championship that was held recently in Dehradun, but one athlete, Shabnam Akhtara, stands out from the rest for her absolute dedication towards the sport in the face of tragedy.

Despite losing her father in June 2018, Shabnam Akhtara had resolved to work hard and fulfil her father’s dream of emerging as a Champion in the sport Kickboxing. And now, her toil and determination seems to have finally paid off.

A resident of Barpeta’s Phulbari village, upcoming star Shabnam Akhtara has bagged a Gold medal in the 60 kg category (15-18 years), and in doing so, has inched one step closer to her father's dream.
She has participated and made her mark in several State-level, national-level and international-level Championships.
Shabnam Akhtara had also bagged a gold in a Martial Arts Championship held in Guwahati’s Sarusujai Stadium in 2018.
Presently, she is a student of Higher Secondary 1st Year and is studying in Howly’s Sublime Academy.
