ASSAM: GOI FAILED TO SAFEGUARD INDIGENOUS PEOPLE: BANYA BARUAH

In the United Nation 38th Conference of Human Rights Commission Banya Baruah spoke on the conference and mentioned that

“The Government of India has failed to uphold its duties to safeguard the indigenous people of Assam. Government of India’s latest decision on Citizenship amendment bill is one such act that is likely to make Assamese community minority in their own state. Government of India actions indicates that they are least bothered about Durban declaration.NRC is the first move to protect the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.” In the conference she strongly opposes the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, and firmly said that it will led to decline of the number of indigenous people of the state.

Banya Baruah is the daughter of Gopal Baruah alias Anup Chetia who is the General Secretary of ULFA.
