The All Assam Kachari Students' Union has lashed out at the Assam Government after it came to light that the Government of Assam has earmarked Government jobs in the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council for the 'general' category and Other Backward Classes (OBC), and not for tribals.

Talking to Inside Northeast, Ratan Kachari, the President of the student body laments that the generation of non-tribal (or ST) jobs in the tribal Council will hamper the prospects of the dwellers. "In this age of unemployment, there one or two jobs that are being generated are not being reserved for the ST category, which we belong to. This is indeed very concerning. Recently, in an announcement made by the Principal Secretary on February 19, out of 3 posts in the LDA post, 2 were unreserved, while one job has been reserved for the OBC/MOBC category. Similarly, in the Grade IV/Peon/Chowkidar, of two posts, 1 post has not been reserved, while the other has been reserved for OBC/MOBC..."
Kachari further informed us that people appointed to Government posts in 2005 have still not been regularized, and their hopes and aspirations are dangling by a thread.
"Yesterday, we submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, intimating him about the situation. However, in all his years as CM -- 4, to be exact, he has never granted us an audience as representatives to a Sonowal-Kachari student body. He will delegate the task of hearing our grievances to MLAs, but, he has not heard us himself."

The student leader further opined that a conspiracy is afoot by the ruling class in Assam to marginalize and divide the people of the State. "The Government, it seems, wants to fills the posts with non-tribals. Why else would they reserve the posts for general people and OBS/MOBS? It could be an attempt to appoint non-Assamese people in these coveted posts", Kachari said.
In the memorandum that was submitted by the student body to the CM on February 25, the body urged the CM to ensure that the rights of the Sonowal-Kacharis are not being deprived, and called upon the CM to provide employment to the unemployed people in the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council.
