The Assam government is planning to impart skills training to former rebels so that they can eke out a living.
Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary told reporters in Guwahati on Tuesday, “The ex-militants, numbering 18,000, will be given skills training for three months. Once they complete the training, they will be provided with loan under the Swabhalambi Asoni”.
Patowary said in this regard, the Assam Skills Development Mission had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) to establish skills centre and provide services to replicate skilling of IIE Singapore model in Assam.
