Assam government Propose Name for Bogibeel Bridge

Guwahati, December 17, 2018:

The Assam government has suggested that the name of Bogibeel bridge be changed to ‘Birangana Sati Sadhani Setu’ instead of ‘Birangana Sadhani Bridge’, as had been decided earlier.

In a letter to the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, the government cited a previous letter that suggested the bridge be named Birangana Sati Sadhani Setu.

The naming of the bridge has been mired in a controversy before its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25 as various organizations in Assam are demanding that the bridge be named after their preferred figure.
