Guwahati, September 3, 2019:

The Assam government has announced legal support to the poor people excluded from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list soon after its release.  This will be done through the District Legal Services Authorities.

According to reports, the government has set up 200 Foreigners Tribunals to smoothly carry out the process of filing complaint and application for NRC, which has been made functional from today.

Moreover, those who have been excluded from the list, will also enjoy all rights as earlier, like any other citizens such as the right to employment, right to education, and property. They will also not be detained under any circumstances, until they exhaust all remedies under the law.

After the release of the final NRC draft on Saturday, 9,06,657 persons were excluded, including those who did not submit claims after the release of the NRC draft last year. 3,11,21,004 persons in total were found eligible for inclusion in the final NRC list.

It may be mentioned here that the fear of being excluded from the NRC has caused a great deal of suffering to a large number of the people of Assam

It has been discovered that about 89% who have been excluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) are suffering from anxiety.

This staggering figure has been revealed by a survey by the National Campaign Against Torture (NCAT) has revealed.

Moreover, many people in Assam have even committed suicide after being omitted from the NRC.
