The Assam government has announced to provide Rs. 2.5 lakh each to 8 thousand ‘Namghars’ in the state. The financial assistance will be provided under the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme by October this year.
Dr. Sarma mentioned that only the ‘Namghars’ will be covered under this initiative. Temples, mosques churches, or any other places of worship except the namghars will not get this financial assistance.

Namghars are important cultural and religious institutions in Assam. It was Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva, the 15th century social reformer and religious preacher who initiated this institution.
