ASSAM GOVERNMENT REVISES MINIMUM WAGE OF PRIVATE SECURITY GUARDS

Guwahati, March 1, 2018:

The Government of Assam has revised the minimum wages payable to employees or workers of private security agencies.

According to a notification issued by the Labour Welfare Department, Government of Assam, the minimum wages of employees have been revised after consultation with the Minimum Wages Advisory Board.

The minimum wages of a security officer have been revised to Rs 18,700, that of a supervisor to Rs 15,600, gunman (armed) to Rs 13,700 and security guard (unarmed) to Rs 10,700 respectively.

Accommodation, Employers' Contribution of any EPF/ESI and any other social scheme is excluded from the minimum wages. In addition to a fixed rate of minimum wages, the employees shall also be entitled to Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) at a rate of 100 percent over rising and fall of Index Point in the All India Consumer Price Index for industrial workers.

The overtime rate will be twice the ordinary rates of wages which shall be payable for every work in excess of 8 hours in a day and 48 hours a week. Workers will also be allowed a day's rest every week.
