The Kamrup (Metro) district administration, Assam has declared the Governor House a containment zone after two employees were tested positive for COVID-19. This was confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu. The employees are Saidur Rahman and Haricharan Dutta.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Kamrup (Metro) administration Ratan Saud and ADC Chinmoy Nath have been tested positive for the lethal virus.
Guwahati has witnessed a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases of late. Most of them have no travel history. Guwahati registered 195 COVID-19 cases on June 28th, 172 on June 29th, 380 on June 30th, 378 cases on July 1st, 238 cases on July 2nd and 134 on July 3rd, 2020

Assam has crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.
It is pertinent to mention that the Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi's visit to BTAD region defying the gudielines laid down by the Ministry of Home Affairs during the lockdown raised many questions and drew strong criticism.
The Governor had visited Kokrajhar on May 19th, 2020, and Udalguri on May 27th, 2020 to review the law and order situation. This was strongly criticised by the Assam Congress and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary including others.

Assam has the highest COVID-19 cases in the Northeast India followed by Tripura.
