GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi today became a shining example of "duty before self" by chairing the 18th Convocation of the Tezpur University, despite being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to a medical ailment.
"Jagadish Mukhi though now in ICU at Apollo Hospitals, doing Duty - Nation Before Self. As Chancellor of Tezpur University, he is chairing the Convocation, while attached to Catheters, in a makeshift VC facility. Salute to his spirit & determination," Assam's Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in a tweet.
Biswa Sarma also uploaded a photo in which the septuagenarian can be seen performing his duty from the hospital room, with the staff looking on, apparently in wonder.
Naturally, netizens are all praising the Assam Governor for his commitment. "Hats off for his loyality towards nation & it's duty .This shud be an inspiration for coming generations," one user said, reacting to the picture, while another stated, "He is doing great job for the nation and committed towards his work. We all pray for his speedy recovery."

It needs mention here that prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the 18th Convocation of Tezpur University, Assam today through video conferencing. Apart from Jagdish Mukhi, Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and the Chief Minister of Assam Shri Sarbananda Sonowal were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said today is a moment to remember and cherish for a lifetime for over 1200 students. He believed that what the students learnt at Tezpur University will accelerate the progress of Assam and the progress of the country.
PM Modi said the sentiment contained in the university anthem which was written by Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika resonates with the great history of Tezpur. The Prime Minister quoted a few lines from the University Anthem
